Mercedes Benz Sydney Fashion week. #Aussies Fashion Tendencies

Aussies as a Worldwide Fashion Inspiration

Mercedes Benz Sydney Fashion week has passed and there we had a chance to see many street style collections that gave us a perfect insight on Aussie’s fashion tendencies. As a country that is relatively isolated from the rest of the world, Australia not only has the weirdest but most beautiful nature on the entire planet but also some of the most unconventional cultural aspects.

On the other hand, fashion is a global phenomenon. In other words, you can see and recognize many international brands and trends on the streets of Australian cities. However, there are still some of their signature combinations and pieces that can actually serve you as a great fashion inspiration.

Bold choices

Aussies were always unconventional on so many levels, especially when it comes to fashion. Here are some of the Aussie’s favs:

Statement prints

We are all digging the comeback of 90s grunge, and so are they. Out of 10 people on the street, 8 of them will be wearing a printed tee. You can see everything, from metal bands, over motorbike brands, all the way to bold messages such as: Get your $h&T together etc.

Satin and silk

This was expected since Australia is, after all, one of the hottest countries in the world. Therefore, they choose light materials that will keep them cool (in both ways). Their ultimate favorites are silk slip dresses and spaghetti strap tops, but you can also see satin pants and suits (as already mentioned before).

High fashion – the Aussie way

Aussie high fashion is also known as laid back high fashion. And even though it may seem absurd, believe it or not, they will always find a way to make even the most sophisticated outfits look effortless. Also, they are huge fans of accessories. For example, they will combine stylish designer over shoulder bags with oversized blazers, heels, and jeans. They will even find a way to make a pajama-like satin suit and a long coat work with sneakers.

Going full denim

We thought that the comeback of denim jackets is going to be it from the 80s, but apparently even going full denim managed to come back somehow. It is all about big, bulky and thick denim garments – kind of like those you can find in your mom’s or dad’s closet.

Comfort always comes first

This is not a fashion combination or a particular garment – this is a valuable lesson Australians are teaching us. Whatever you do and wherever you go, the most important thing is that you are feeling comfortable in your clothes. A cool and ultra-trendy outfit is worth nothing if you are physically in pain while wearing it, right? After all, fashion is here to make us happy, not hurt us in any way.

Not your classic maxi dress

When we think maxi dress, we instantly think of a basic, strappy monochrome cotton dress. However, Aussies don’t like to play it that simple. On this year’s MBFW, designers were all about ruffles and flowers. We already know that floral is a huge spring hit, thanks to NYFW at the beginning of the year, and Aussies decided to flower and ruffle it up their own way. Mostly, there were white dresses (what a surprise huh?) with various patterns, asymmetrical cuts, etc.

If there is one garment Australian girls are famous for, it is definitely a playsuit. Playsuits are laid back, easy and handy, but at the same time trendy. Whether they are monochrome or patterned, they are universal and appropriate for any occasion. For example, you can pair up your playsuit with your Chuck Taylors and your 80s denim jacket during daytime and with 6-inch heels, a designer bag and a cool blazer for a fun night out. Comfort, style, and versatility – all in one piece of clothing.

Beach blonde surfer girl hair

You’ve probably noticed and read on many style blogs that beach blonde surfer girl hair is now a huge hit. And where do you think it came from? Australia, of course. The climate out there is helping girls maintain their natural waves and cool blonde highlights. If you are not lucky enough to live in a country that is near the ocean, you can achieve this hairstyle in many different ways like braids, upside down blow drying, curlers etc. It is needless to mention that many supermodels like Gigi Hadid or Hailey Baldwin are already embracing this hair trend.

That would be it. How do you like these trends? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
